We carried autumn comfort to another home today, where a baby was just welcomed and the prospect of dinner ready to pop in the oven brought visible relief to a mother's eyes.
The question became: what to fix? After much debate and recipe flipping I decided on chicken pot pie full of cream sauce and bright vegetables, topped with perfectly flaky buttermilk biscuits. My mouth is watering remembering how well it turned out.
And of course I had to include chocolate chip cookies, swathed in wax paper, packed in a white bakery box. It was one of those golden moments in the afternoon sunshine, delivering a meal like that. I like to think it was nesting at it's best: for a woman who simply can't nest for her own family right now.
